  This session is hosted remotely.

Track: Jedi

NQOH: XML is so ‘00, JSON is so ‘10, binary is the way to go!

During these 15 minutes we will take stroll along the past and present of instant messaging: Starting with ICQ, AOL Instant Messenger, skipping MSN, SMS/MMS, sidestepping to Jabber, and then on to WhatsApp and Signal. Discussing how each uses a binary protocol and what we can learn from them when deciding ourself on using libraries such as Protobuf, Avro, and Thrift.

Read the background to this session by Laurens Blankers in its mini.CONF Story (in Dutch).
