Software heeft ons heel veel moois gebracht. Maar heeft een ‘dark side’. Historisch is het meest bekend voorbeeld de Therac-25, die, vanwege slecht software design, een dodelijke dosis straling toediende aan tenminste 3 patiënten. Recenter voorbeelden zijn de 737 MAX (346 doden), maar ook schijnbare onschuldige dingen als discriminerende gezichtsherkenningssoftware of, every stalkers dream device, de Apple AirTag. Hoe gaan wij, als software engineers, hier mee om? In hoeverre zijn wij verantwoordelijke voor de negatieve gevolgen van de software die wij bouwen? Moreel en juridisch? En wordt het tijd voor een ‘Eed van Hippocrates’ voor Software Engineers?

Laurens is a Java Software Engineer with over 15 years of experience. He excels at extracting the bigger picture and applying this to the smallest details. He combines this theoretical knowledge with his vast practical experience and hands-on mentality. Laurens has significant experience with a number of Java based platforms, including Jakarta EE and Spring (Boot). Ranging from REST microservices in the cloud to applications for controlling custom hardware on the desktop.
